Royal Cargo Thailand Delivers Heavylift Transport of Rotary Dryers to Rayong Industrial Site

25 Jul, 2025 by Cherry Pascual

Royal Cargo (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently finalized the successful delivery of three (3) rotary dryer units, each weighing 91.56 metric tons, from Laem Chabang Port to Birla Carbon’s new industrial facility in Muang Rayong. The transportation route spanned 123 kilometers of uphill terrain, a task made more challenging by heavy rains, port congestion, and an unexpected road incident.

The rotary dryers, each measuring 24 x 4.56 x 4.70 meters, were discharged from a conventional breakbulk vessel at Laem Chabang in the early morning of July 17 and were received alongside berth between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM on the same day. The movement was facilitated using three (3) 14-axle hydraulic trailers, designed specifically for managing immense loads.

Despite pre-planned coordination, the team faced critical operational challenges:

  • Port traffic restrictions limited truck dispatches to staggered intervals of 2–3 hours, and travel was permitted only at night.
  • A road obstruction on the uphill route delayed one trailer for seven (7) hours, from 4:00 AM to 11:00 AM; the delay was mitigated when local highway police intervened and escorted the cargo for the final 30 kilometers.
  • Inclement weather and soft ground conditions at the site further delayed unloading. Although all units arrived between July 18-19, offloading using a 400-ton capacity crane was only made possible by July 20-21, once conditions stabilized.

Royal Cargo Thailand’s project team remained agile and responsive throughout these challenges, collaborating closely with local authorities, port handlers, and crane operators to ensure zero damage and 100% safety compliance.

This successful execution demonstrates Royal Cargo Thailand’s ability to handle complex heavy transport operations under adverse conditions, coordinate projects, and address on-the-ground challenges in real-time.
